About

I, Harpie, am an editorial professional with a lengthy C.V. covering writing, editing, publishing, and managing communications across diverse industries and markets. My weaknesses are the Romantic poets, the Plantagenet dynasty, taking pictures of cemetery statuary, and collecting books about book collecting. I also bake a mean snickerdoodle.

Harpie’s Nest, on the other hand, is my writing playground. It’s most likely to include anecdotes related to my logophilic and bibliophilic pursuits, professionally and passionately.

Why ‘Harpie’?

Most people up on their mythology would infer that being nicknamed after a filthy, food‑stealing monster would be insulting. However, the long story involves 3 a.m. press deadlines and child‑rearing, followed by email aliases and Yahoo groups, and eventually desert vacations and enduring/endearing misspellings. It’s a moniker steeped in professional and personal milestones, so it lives on well past the first throw-away utterance in a newsroom 20 years ago.

Besides, if it works for one of the greatest comedic heroines ever written (see Act II, Scene 1, Much Ado About Nothing), I consider myself in good company.
